Darwin Buddy Galapagos Diving Liveaboard including Darwin and Wolf islands, Ecuador
One of the newest diving yachts in Galapagos, Darwin Buddy was custom designed and built in 2011 and started her trips in this remote Ecuadorian archipelago in October of the same year. Stylish, comfortable and spacious, Darwin Buddy reaches a length of 36 meters (120 feet) and has 4 ample decks. It is equipped with cutting edge equipment that includes a fire control system, life saving devices, and a state of the art navigation and communications system. Darwin Buddy uses a jet propulsion system for safe navigation around the islands of the Galapagos archipelago and has a maximum cruising speed of 12 knots.
Darwin Buddy takes up to 16 guests on-board, accommodated in 9 luxuriously decorated suites, each at least 15 square meters large. All of the suites have a convertible double bed / twin beds, en-suite bathroom, privately controlled air conditioning and entertainment systems that include a flat-screen television and a DVD player. The comfort of the furnishings makes these suites very inviting after a full, beautiful day of diving.
Meals are served in the cozy restaurant located on the main deck. Yacht chefs prepare first-class dishes, a combination of local, international and European cuisine, including a healthy and complete breakfast, delicious lunch and dinner. Between dives and meals, guests can relax in the lounge area, where the entertainment system can be used for watching movies and underwater pictures or videos; the bar, also located here, provides access to enjoyable cocktails and soft drinks (included in the price of the cruise), as well as premium brands of alcohol, which are offered for an additional charge. The spacious sun deck with comfortable sun-loungers is ideal for reading a book during the day or watching the starlit sky at night. And a full sized heated jacuzzi is also located here for guests’ relaxation and delight.
Two pangas, or inflatable dive-boats with outboard engines, are used to conduct the dives. Due to moderate to strong currents in Galapagos, many of the dives are drift dives, so the pangas will follow the group’s bubbles and be right there when guests surface from the dive. The diving deck of Darwin Buddy is very spacious and separated into two sections, one of which is closed and heated during the cooler days. Warm towels are provided upon returning from every dive and four fresh hot water showers and two public toilets are located on the dive-deck. Divers with underwater camera equipment can use a custom-designed camera table and rinse tanks.
Trips on-board Darwin Buddy last for 8 days and include 3 full days of diving at the remote Wolf and Darwin islands. The operator also takes care of local flights bookings and provides the opportunity to the guests for an enjoyable holiday right from the time of arrival to Ecuador. Return flights from Quito or Guayaquil to Galapagos cost about $350 - $450 per person depending on the season.
